Domestic violence reports constitute 84% of the reports received by Albanian prosecution offices, General Prosecutor Olsian Çela told parliament on Thursday.
Çela admitted that this number is exceptionally high and preventative mechanisms must be strengthened.
The General Prosecutor also reported that a monitoring group has been created within the Prosecution to ensure that the law is applied equally for all. He added that one of the main challenges the Prosecution is currently facing is miscommunication between prosecutors and management.
When asked regarding the large number of cases that don’t have a suspect, Çela admitted that “they have been a constant concern for years,” but that “structures are currently engaged, they are a daily part of prosecutors’ coordinated work, and the rates of detection are high.”
