PBDNj leader Vangjel Dule declared today that foreign diplomats have tried to persuade the smaller opposition parties to enter the elections, even without the PD, so that they had a better chance to win more seats.
During a student forum at the European University of Tirana, Dule stated:
The meetings with diplomats have mostly been in the form of presenting the well-known arguments of the opposition. They told us in the presence of representatives of 4–5 political parties that maybe this could be a good chance to profit from the non-participation of the Democratic Party in the elections to win some additional mandates.
This seems to be a tactic also followed during other meetings between non-government politicians and foreign diplomats. During late March Libra leader Ben Blushi had several meetings with foreign ambassadors, after which he declared that he would enter the elections, even if the opposition were to boycott them.
