Elections in Kavaja, Rama Withdraws PS Candidacy

Prime Minister Edi Rama withdrew yesterday PS’s candidacy for the Municipality of Kavaja, Klodian Shehi. He also encouraged the withdrawal of independent candidate, Astrit Haka.
In a public communication, Prime Minister Rama said:

In my conscience, I feel calm, because I have done a lot to make PD enter the election. The proposed mechanism guarantees equality.

June 18th is not a date chosen by me but by the constitution. As far as I am concerned, June 18th cannot be part of the negotiations.

I’m not just the head of the PS, but also the prime minister of Albania. As head of the PS, I have no concern whether the PD will chose to commit political suicide or not but as prime minister I have a responsibility.

There are some of you who are keep thinking about Kavaja and May 7th. There are many who are afraid of this date. There are people who are afraid of a physical collision, there are others who fear that there will be a conflict in Albania.

Our challenge is to go until June 18th, doing our best to prevent anything from obstructing anything bad that might happen to Albania.

We shall not add fuel to the fire to the unconstitutional, antidemocratic and anti-democratic provocation. Kavaja will not become the square for a despicable actions.

Shame shall fall on PD. I have suggested to our candidate in Kavaja to step down. This is what I have asked also to the independent candidate as well.
