The US Embassy reacted shortly after Prime Minister Rama’s decision to postpone local elections in Kavaja.
In a press release of the US Embassy it is written that:
The United States Embassy supports the Prime Minister’s call for postponing municipal elections in Kavaja in order to maintain the government and opposition’s focus on the dialogue process.
The embassy calls on the government and opposition to resolve the political crisis by negotiating before of the June 18 elections.
It also states that “We call on all parties not to engage in acts that may incite violence, especially acts that affect citizens’ ability to participate in elections and to exercise their right to vote. Violence has no place in the democratic process!”
