EU Envoy Lajcak Is ‘Absolutely’ Sure a Kosovo-Serbia Deal Is Possible

The European Union is convinced that “the comprehensive normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is absolutely possible.”

Asked what he would do if the was no compromise, EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak said that “it is in their interest, in the interest of the whole region and, of course in the interest of the EU,” in an interview for the Belgrade daily Danas that was published on Wednesday.

“We are ready to continue as soon as the new government in Prishtina takes office,” Lajcak added.

The leader of election winner Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti said that forming a negotiating team for the talks with Serbia was not his priority.

Lajcak said the EU is a mediator in the dialogue and will not impose anything.

Asked about the time when the dialogue between two countries could continue, Lajcak said that it would not be a wise thing to “fixate a date”.

Kosovo is celebrating its 13th independence anniversary, while next month it will be ten years since it started the negotiations for normalization of relations with Serbia.

The talks between two countries are mediated by the EU and supported by the United States of America.
