EU Envoy to Visit Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro

The EU Special Representative for the Belgrade- Prishtina dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues, Miroslav Lajcak will visit the region on the first week of March.

According a press release by the European Union office in Prishtina, Lajcak will start his visit in Kosovo from 1 to 3 March.

He will continue in Serbia from 3 to 4 March and also will visit Montenegro as part of his regional mandate from 4 to 5 March.

Lajcak will be meeting with the political leadership of all three countries, as well as the representatives of the European Union.

Lajcak stated on Saturday that he expects the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to resume soon after Kosovo forms a new government, following parliamentary elections, in which Vetevendosje Movement led by Albin Kurti won about 48%.

In an interview for the European Western Balkans portal, Lajcak highlighted Kosovo and Serbia’s objective to become EU members, which for other member states necessitates the normalization of relations between the two countries.

Kurti’s government is expected to focus on improving the economy and fighting against corruption. He has stated that they will continue the dialogue with Serbia but their energies will be concentrated on what the people consider priorities – economy, jobs, corruption, justice.
