The EU expects the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to resume soon after Kosovo forms a new government, EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak stated on Saturday.
In an interview for the European Western Balkans portal, Lajcak highlighted Kosovo and Serbia’s objective to become EU members, which for other member states necessitates the normalization of relations between the two countries.
Lajcak said the dialogue could be finalized within a month, but its pace is to be decided by both parties, while the EU is only a facilitator and imposes no deadlines.
The EU representative will visit Belgrade and Pristina soon to discuss the continuation of the dialogue with President Aleksandar Vucic and Albin Kurti, who is expected to be elected Kosovo’s Prime Minister.
Kurti’s government is expected to focus on improving the economy and fighting against corruption. He has stated that they will continue the dialogue with Serbia but their energies will be concentrated on what the people consider priorities – economy, jobs, corruption, justice.
