EU Grants €15 Million for Construction of Schools Damaged in Albanian Earthquake

On Wednesday, the European Union granted Albania €15 million to support construction of schools following the devastating November 26 earthquake that’s left 51 dead and thousands of homeless.

Representatives of EU, UNDP and Albanian government signed an agreement in an online ceremony today for the release of the grant. It will be used to rebuild 22 schools in five cities: Durrës, Kavajë, Kurbin, Kamzë dhe Krujë.

EU Ambassador to Albania Luigi Soreca stated that the €115 million pledged by the European Commission for Albania’s post-earthquake recovery will be released as promised.

The European Commission organized a donors’ conference for Albania in February, in which donors from all around the world pledged about €1.16 billion in aid intended to help reconstruction efforts following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on November 26, 2019.
