EU-Western Balkans Summit in Zagreb Postponed

The EU-Western Balkans Summit in Zagreb has been postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus preventative measures.

The Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union has announced that the Summit will not be held on May 7 as planned. A new June date will be decided on in agreement with the President of the European Council.

If the coronavirus situation makes a June date unfeasible, as well, the Summit will take place in a video conference, before the end of the Croatian Presidency on July 1.

The Zagreb Summit, planned as one of the main events of the Croatian Presidency, aims to kick off regular yearly meetings between the EU and the Western Balkans. The Croatian Presidency’s other central goal, the opening of EU accession negotiation for Albania and North Macedonia has been achieved.
