Ex-KLA Spokesperson to Appear before The Hague Court on Monday

The initial appearance of the former Kosovo’s parliament speaker Jakup Krasniqi will take place on November 9 at 11 am, The Hague-based Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) announced on Thursday.

Indictment against the former political spokesperson of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Jakup Krasniqi was confirmed on 26 October 2020, the KSC statement reads.

He was arrested by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, and transferred to the detention facilities of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague on the same day.

Krasniqi was first held in his house in Prishtina for about nine hours while the police searched the premises.

He is charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law.

Krasniqi is indicted alongside former president Hashim Thaci, former parliament speaker Kadri Veseli, and opposition Vetevendosje MP Rexhep Selimi.

The indictment against the four former  senior KLA members was published on Thursday evening. Charges against them include crimes against (i) minorities; (ii) Catholics; (iii) civilians allegedly collaborating with Serbia; (iv) Albanians perceived as anti-KLA, etc.
