On Wednesday of this week, Exit.al was subjected to a cyberattack designed to infiltrate the database and destroy the articles stored on it.
Anyone trying to access the site was redirected to various spam sites that prompted warnings of “unsafe content”. The issue persisted for almost 24 hours until the webmaster was able to gain back full control of the site.
The webmaster explained that a virus had been planted into the backend of the website that attempted to delete content from the database. We were able to gain control of the site again and nothing was lost.
Exit is an independent news portals in Albania that regularly investigates scandals and publishes criticisms going to the highest levels of government.
Investigations are ongoing and the matter has been reported to international press freedom organisations.
