Experts Condemn Albanian MPs Refusing to Wear Face Masks in Parliament

Face masks in closed spaces, especially crowded ones, became mandatory in Albania on July 15.

During the announcement, Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu stressed that wearing masks will be obligatory in public administration institutes and offices.

However, during the July 16 parliamentary session, several MPs violated this decision by appearing in parliament with no masks on, as witnessed by the below images, collected by ABC News.

Several epidemiologists have chastised the MPs’ behaviour. Ilir Alimehmeti, from the Tirana University Medical College, said that their actions undermined the work of doctors and experts and set a “horrible example.”

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vasilika Hysi warned MPs that the Parliament risks incurring a 7 million ALL (€56,000) as a result of “someone’s whims or negligence”
