250 employees of a shoe factory in Vlore are protesting because they have not received any financial assistance from the state since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
They said that the tax office has denied them the so-called “war salary” but that their employer is only paying them 10,000 ALL a month. In addition to this, their employer said they have not applied for the state assistance, leaving the employees with not enough money to survive.
The staff worked on a reduced schedule during the pandemic but the remuneration they have received does not cover their basic living expenses, they said. They called on the state to provide financial assistance to them to help them cope with the difficulties of this period
Employees also denounced the conditions they were made to work in, without masks and gloves. They said that when checks are due in the factory, the managers call and tell them to put on masks and gloves which are often improvised.
