After meeting with US Ambassador Donald Lu and EU Ambassador Romana Vlahutin, MEP and Albania Rapporteur Knut Fleckenstein stated in a press conference that “dialogue needs to happen in Parliament. I am not negotiating about the protest.”
During his visit to Tirana Fleckenstein also met with Prime Minister Rama. He is expected to meet Speaker of Parliament Ilir Meta and PD leader Lulzim Basha as well.
In a recent interview with Deutsche Welle published, Fleckenstein emphasized that the June 18 elections would be a test for the opening of EU accession negotiations.
Fleckenstein was the author of the 2016 Progress Report on Albania. The European Union has imposed five conditions on Albania for the opening of accession negotiation, including holding free and fair elections and the implementation of the judicial reform.
