Air Albania, Albania’s flagship carrier, will start in mid-July flights to Istanbul and Zurich out of the newly inaugurated Kukes International Airport, in the northeast of the country.
The airport, built in the 2000s, was out of operation until its management was contracted to a private consortium, in 2019. More than €8 million were planned to be invested in improving its safety systems, the passenger terminal, and other key functionalities.
Last April, an Air Albania flight London-Tirana-Kukes was the first flight to land in the airport.
It’s not yet clear if the airport has received the necessary international certifications and clearings. It does not yet appear on travel and flight information platforms.
However, it is now poised to start normal operations on July 15th.
The first flights will be between Kukes and Zurich and Kukes and Istanbul. They will have the following schedules:
— departing Kukës at 12:40, arriving in Zurich at 14:55 on Thursdays, and respectively at 13:40 and 15:55 on Sundays; departing Zurich at 15:55 and arriving in Kukës at 18:10 on Thursdays, and respectively at 16:55 and 19:10 on Sundays.
— departing Kukës (KFZ) at 19:10, arriving in Instanbul at 21:50 on Thursdays, and departing Istanbul at 11:00 and arriving in Kukës at 11:40 also on Thursdays.
To promote the new Kukes airport, Air Albania is selling its one-way ticket to Zurich for one euro plus taxes.
