Albania is ranked second to last in the Western Balkans regime with relation to the business climate, performing only better than Bosnia & Herzegovina.
According to the Global Entrepreneur Index 2018 of the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute, Albania is ranked 83rd of the 137 countries surveyed, dropping 3 places compared to last year. Albania’s overall score on the GEI scale from 0 to 100 is 24. The US ranks highest with 83.6.
Whereas Albania scores relatively high on startup skills, “the skills necessary to start a business based on their own perceptions and the availability of tertiary education,” with 68, Albanians are wary to start up their own companies because of the risks involved. Other negative influences are lack of opportunity created by governance, the lack of innovation, and the low availability of start-up capital.
