Albanians were the second most deported nationality from Germany in 2021, pipped to the top spot by Georgia, according to the German Federal Ministry of the Interior.
According to the announcement, some 11,982 people were deported in 2021, more than in 2020 which saw 10,800 deportations. In 2019 however, over 22,000 people were sent home.
Georgia saw 1116 citizens repatriated, while 908 Albanians were returned. In contrast, only around 400 Kosovo Albanians and Turkish people were deported during the same period.
The new German coalition government said, “we are launching a return offensive to consistently implement the departure from Germany, especially the expulsion of criminals and dangerous persons.”
