Germany Welcomes Kosovo’s Cooperation with The Hague

Germany reacted after the latest developments in Kosovo where high state officials were indicted and arrested on war crimes by The- Hague based Kosovo Specialist Chambers, including ex-President Hashim Thaci.

“We welcome the announced cooperation between the defendants and the law enforcement authorities. The processing of war crimes is necessary and part of the Kosovar commitment to the rule of law,” the German ministry of foreign affairs tweeted on Friday.

They said that there can be no lasting peace in a society without justice.

“Germany therefore also supports the important work of the Kosovo Special Chambers in terms of personnel and finances,” the reaction says.

German diplomacy points out that Kosovo is an important European partner with whom they work closely.

Hashim Thaci who served as the political leader of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the war, ex- KLA political spokesperson Jakup Krasniqi, ex- KLA commander Rexhep Selimi and one of the founders Kadri Veseli are now in detention facilities of the KSC in The Hague waiting to face charges on war crimes.

Two days ago EULEX special units raided Krasniqi’s house for around nine hours.

The Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) charged the KLA senior figures with murder, enforced disappearance of persons, persecution, and torture against hundreds of Kosovo Albanians, Serbs, Roma, and other ethnicities.
