Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that recreation parks and lakes will be closed as part of the government’s effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The Prime Minister posted a video on Facebook scolding people for gathering in large groups in the country’s parks and public spaces, following the temporary closure of all bars and cafes. He warned that “the worst is yet to come.”
Rama explained that strict government restrictions are necessary to fight the spread of the virus. He warned that if this does not happen “the number of people who need hospitalization will be much larger than the number of available hospital beds.”
The government has closed down schools, gyms, nightclubs, bars, and cafes, in its attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19. 38 infected cases have been reported so far in the country.
