The work to rehabilitate the 35-kilometer-long Tirana-Durres railway will start this month, following today’s signing of the agreement between the Albanian government and Italian company INC S.P.A.
An additional 5.7-kilometer-long railway segment will be built to connect the current one with Tirana’s international airport, Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku told journalists on Wednesday after the signing ceremony.
She said the project will enable jobs for 2,200 people, and are planned to be completed in the summer of 2023.
The European Union has provided 36.65 million euros for the project.
INC S.P.A. won the international tender for the rehabilitation of the railway in October 2020 with a bid of 70 million euros.
