The Greek government has decided to make the use of masks outdoors mandatory, and to impose a curfew in selected regions of the country.
The new measures aim to contain the spike in daily coronavirus infections, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during a statement on Thursday.
Greece saw a record high number of 882 new cases today, as well as 15 deaths. It has registered 28,216 cases and 549 deaths in total, while nearly one-third of those infected have recovered.
Masks will be required outdoors starting from Sunday. At the same time, a curfew will be imposed from 12.30 a.m. until 5 a.m. in high-risk regions. Northern regions of Kozani and Kastoria are two of the most affected.
