European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn claims that 2018 will be an important year for Serbia’s future in the EU.
Yesterday, after meeting Serbian president Vucic, Hahn tweeted:
2018 can be the year of decisive progress on Serbia’s EU path. New Western Balkans Strategy with indicative 2025 horizon should be a strong incentive for Serbian Government. Normalisation of relations with Kosovo and Rule of Law reforms are crucial.
Meanwhile, in Brussels, negotiations between Prishtina and Belgrade continue. EU spokesperson Maja Kocijančič stated:
The meeting took place in a warm and constructive atmosphere. Both parties confirmed their readiness to restart discussions on different matters that were discussed today.
According to new EU Enlargement Strategy for the Western Balkans published two weeks ago, the Kosovo-Serbia conflict is a key point of both countries’ possible membership negotiations. A resolution would, therefore, be crucial for both parties’ membership prospects.
