After the election of the new Speaker of Parliament Kadri Veseli, Ramush Haradinaj has been mandated to form a new coalition government in Kosovo. During a press conference, Haradinaj, who was also Prime Minister between 2004 and 2005, stated in a press conference:
From today there is no longer an institutional blockade. We have a long agenda ahead of us, that is related to the daily life of our citizens. We don’t have time to lose.
Haradinaj’s new government becomes possible after Behgjet Pacolli’s New Kosovo Alliance (AKR) left it’s pre-electoral coalition and joined Haradinaj’s coalition of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and Nisma, which has also gained the support of the Serbian and non-Serbian minority representatives in Parliament.
According to the coalition agreement, the coalition government will distribute ministerial posts as follows:
- PDK: 6
- AAK: 2
- AKR: 4
- Nisma: 3
- Serbian List: 3
- Non-Serbian Communities: 2
The solution to the political crisis since the June elections has also been welcomed by the EU. EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijančič declared:
We welcome the election of the Speaker of Parliament, which is the first step toward the formation of institutions after the elections held in June. The EU asks the parliamentary majority to form a government as quickly as possible, in order to work for the necessary reforms, which will bring Kosovo forward on its road toward the EU.
