High Prosecutorial Council to Appoint Three More Anti-Corruption Prosecutors

Three new members of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) will be appointed on May 21.

High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) chair Gent Ibrahimi announced that candidate interviews would take place on May 18.

On Monday, KLP released the names of the four candidates: Dorina Bejko, Dritan Prençi, Sotir Kllapi, and Vladimir Mara.

The most prominent candidates seem to be Mara and Prençi. In December 2019, KLP temporarily transferred them to SPAK to help the Office with a heavy caseload.

Vladimir Mara and Dritan Prençi were prosecutors at the Serious Crimes Prosecution Office. They worked in several important cases such as that against former Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri, Orest Sota, Habilaj criminal group financer Nazer Seiti, and the Dako-Avdylaj affair. In July, when the first batch of SPAK members were selected, neither Mara nor Prençi made the cut.

SPAK currently has 8 members, out of its required minimum of 10. With the three new additions that will be appointed on May 21, it will reach 11 members.
