A family in Berat had a lucky escape in more ways than one when their house got struck by lightning and caught fire on Wednesday (10 August).
The house in the village of Mbolan was struck by lightning during a storm, and the apartment quickly burst into flames. The family, including the husband and wife and two children, were able to escape the flames immediately and called the fire brigade.
Shortly after, three fire engines arrived and began work to extinguish the fire. But before doing so, firefighters entered the burning apartment to retrieve EUR 20,000 stashed in a drawer in the bedroom.
Thankfully for all involved, while the house was destroyed, the inhabitants, firefighters, and a big wad of cash were not harmed.
