The Alliance for the Protection of the National Theatre’s protest in Tirana has begun.
Director Robert Budina accused the government and the Tirana municipality of ordering the demolition of the National Theatre building while there were still protesters within, thus endangering their lives.
“At 4:15am some artists and civil activists were attacked by the police during an unimaginable blitz action,” Budina recounted. “Some of us entered the Theatre building. The police attacked us. Some witnesses say that demolition began while we were still inside, thus threatening both our lives and those of the police officers.”
