Indicted Former KLA Members to Vote in February Elections from The Hague

The Central Election Commission of Kosovo has announced that former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) officials facing war crimes indictments in The Hague will be able to vote in the February 14 general elections in the country.

Applications of former president Hashim Thaci, former parliament speakers Jakup Krasniqi and Kadri Veseli, former MP Rexhep Selimi, KLA veterans leaders Hysni Gucati and Nasim Haradinaj and former KLA commander Salih Mustafa are already verified and registered in the voting lists.

Kosovo citizens residing outside the country will be able to vote in these elections through a verification process that is being used for the first time since independence in 2008.

They have to apply and wait for a phone call from the CEC, which should confirm the information submitted in the application.

Many have complained on social media about having not received the much awaited phone call despite having applied several days ago.

Kosovo has a large diaspora that is estimated to amount to roughly one third of the population. The number of those who have requested to vote will be clear in the coming days.
