The Italian Ambassador to Albania, Alberto Cutillio, expressed Italy’s support for the opening of EU accession negotiations with Albania.
During an activity organized for Italian Republic Day, Cutillio said:
We welcome Albania to the European family. Let us look forward with great expectations, a future that will see Albania in the EU.
Cutillio stated that, between the two countries, there has been and there will always be a close cooperation, that doesn’t demonstrate itself only in financial terms, but also in many other elements that unite Italy and Albania.
At a time when Italy finds itself in a political crisis, with no government to speak of, and headed towards early elections, we still don’t know what the Italian parliament’s vote regarding opening EU accession negotiations with the Western Balkans countries will be.
Following the vote that will take place in several Member State parliaments at the end of June, a vote will be held in the European Council to finally decide whether the accession negotiations will open or not.
