Sunday also featured the local elections in Italy, which marked a big loss for the center-left Democratic Party, which is closely allied with Prime Minister Edi Rama’s PS.
Significant for Albanian politics in particular is the fate of Verona mayor Flavio Tosi, whose wife lost against center-right candidate Federico Sboarina.
Tosi was personally involved in several construction projects in Albania, in particular the construction of the Vlora and Fier bypasses, which had been tendered out to the bankrupt Italian company Serenissima, whose mother corporation is owned for 49% by the Municipality of Verona.
