The Guardia di Finanza from Bari captured this morning 600 kg cannabis on the beach in Puglia. The drugs were transported by two Albanian boatmen, who were arrested.
Italian media report that the two Albanians, 26 and 35 years old, had remained at sea for several days, after the engine of the rubber boat got damaged.
When they noticed that they were followed by the Italian police they tried to dump the packages with cannabis into the sea.
This action bring the total amount of cannabis captured by the Italians to 6.1 tons:
- April 4: Guardia di Finanza captured 1.7 tons cannabis in Karaburun;
- March 30: 2.2 tons cannabis confiscated in the harbor of Ancona;
- March 21: 1.6 tons cannabis confiscated in Brindisi.
