Organizations representing Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) veterans will protest on July 9 to demand the special Kosovo court in The Hague to also investigate crimes committed by Serbs and genocide by Serbian regime during the Kosovo war.
The veterans will ask the Kosovo Parliament to amend the law on the Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office so as not to focus exclusively on alleged crimes by KLA members.
In a meeting before announcing the protest, they condemned the announcement of indictments for Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and PDK chairman Kadri Veseli. They said the announcement and the court was politically motivated, which makes possible future trials illegal, Koha newspaper reported.
The organizations said the announcement of the indictment was made with the specific purpose to hinder the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
The 9 July protest motto in Prishtina will be “In defense of the liberation war.”
The Specialist Prosecutor’s Office announced Thaci’s indictment while he was travelling to the US to attend a summit on resuming Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Thaci, Veseli and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama have claimed that indictments against individuals will harm the legacy of KLA war and Kosovo’s statehood.
