The High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) ranked Serious Crimes Prosecutor Olsian Çela first among the three candidates for General Prosecutor. Arta Marku was ranked second and Fatjona Memcaj third.
In accordance with Art.23 of the Law on the Prosecution Office, the KLP evaluated and ranked the candidates based on the following criteria: professionalism, moral and professional integrity, and organizational and managerial skills. The list should be sent to parliament within three weeks.
The KLP had hearing sessions with each candidate yesterday, and were presented with their plans to lead the highest prosecutorial institution in Albania.
The Constitution stipulates that the parliament shall elect the General Prosecutor from the list of three candidates by three-fifths of the votes of its members. In case it fails to reach the required number of votes within 30 days of receiving the proposals, the candidate ranked first by the High Prosecutorial Council shall be declared appointed.
The Prosecutor General is appointed for a seven-year mandate, without the right to re-appointment.
