Kosovo Acting President Dismisses Four Consuls General

Kosovo’s Acting President Vjosa Osmani has reversed four decrees of former President Hashim Thaçi appointing consuls general in Prague, Ljubljana, Skopje and Tirana.

In a press release on Wednesday, Osmani’s office said that it’s not common practice in diplomacy to open consulates general and appoint consuls in the same city where an embassy of the same country exists. This is the case for the first three consulates and consuls, they added, despite there being no consent by the host countries.

The appointment of the consul general in Tirana, Albania was reversed following a proposal by the ministry of foreign affairs, which Thaçi had refused to consider.

The dismissed consuls are Flakron Shala in Prague/Czech Republic, Blendi Kilaj in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Lindon Kqira in Skopje, North Macedonia, and Halim Krasniqi in Tirana, Albania.

Osmani’s decisions come one day after the media revealed the appointment of Flakron Shala, the son of MP Haxhi Shala, as consul general in Prague.
