Vetevendosje (LVV) activist Besnik Mujeci was stopped by the Kosovo police on Thursday evening.
Mujeci told KOHA that he was fined €50 for “disturbing public peace” after shouting “down with Serbia and Srpska Lista (Serbian List) [the Belgrade-backed Serbian minority party in Kosovo’s parliament]” on the street outside of the Prime Minister’s office. The police confirmed the fine.
He claims that he was slapped by a police official at the police precinct.
Mujeci also stated that he would not be filing any complaints regarding this case, as he claims he has no faith in the country’s law enforcement institutions.
A similar incident took place on Wednesday when another LVV activist, Veron Hasani, yelled “thief” during a press statement by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci. He was subsequently attacked by Thaci’s bodyguards, and then detained. When asked about it, Thaci defended his bodyguards’ actions.
