Kosovo Bosniak Politician Complains in Supreme Court after Her Votes Were Annulled

The leader of the Bosniak citizens’ initiative Ujedinjena Zajednica (UZ-AH) Adrijana Hodzic, filed a complaint at Kosovo’s Supreme Court against the decision of the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) which annulled over 4,200 votes that she secured in Serb-majority municipalities.

Hodzic said that the decision of ECAP on March 8 was “scandalous and unacceptable”, as according to her, with the annulment of votes, the fundamental rights of the citizens of Kosovo are violated.

She warned that if the Supreme Court does not overturn the ECAP decision, she will use other judicial instances, alluding to the Constitutional Court and international mechanisms.

“We will use all the institutions and resources we have within Kosovo. But if this does not work, where the human right to vote according to the will would be respected, we will go further, we will use the mechanisms of institutions abroad,” Hodzic said after submitting the complaint.

The Supreme Court has 72 hours to make a decision from the moment of receiving an appeal.

ECAP decision was made based on the complaint of representatives of Bosniak, Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities claiming that the UZ-AH and Roma Initiative secured votes with the help of Srpska Lista (Serbian List).

They claim that Srpska Lista which secured 10 seats reserved for Serbs in Kosovo’s Parliament, wants to increase their influence among non-Serb minorities’ representatives.

20 out of 120 seats of Kosovo’s Parliament are reserved for non-majority communities, 10 for Serbs, four for Romani, Ashkali, and Egyptians, three for Bosniaks, two for Turks, and one seat for Gorans.
