Kosovo Extends Daily Power Cuts over Energy Crisis

The government of Kosovo has implemented emergency measures to deal with its energy crisis, approving daily power cuts for the next sixty days.

Earlier this week, KEDS, Kosovo’s energy distribution company, announced there would be country-wide power cuts in response to the ongoing energy crisis.

Starting on Thursday, Kosovo household and businesses have experienced two-hour power cuts that have been spaced out throughout the day.

85% of Kosovo’s domestic energy production comes from thermal power. Outdated stations contribute to low domestic production and a global energy crisis has increased import prices.

KEDS called on citizens to be careful with their energy consumption and use alternative heating measures, as end of the year holidays has led to overloads.

According to local media reports, Kosovo citizens are planning to protest these power cuts on Monday.
