Kosovo Needs a Dignified President to Face Serbia, Ex PM Says

The leader of Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and former Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj said that Serbia is using the time when Kosovo is left facing outgoing institutions, to return to its threats

“Our aggressive neighbor is returning to its usual threats against our state,” Haradinaj wrote on Facebook about the diplomatic stance of Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic against Kosovo.

“He feels strong now when Kosovo has a dismissed government and has a weak Acting President,” he said.

Haradinaj made clear that his aim sis candidacy for President, while his party is not interested on a candidacy for Prime Minister during the snap parliamentary elections of February 14.

“We need a President who stands strong for Kosovo and is estimable of facing the aggressive opponent, Serbia,” he said.

Haradinaj pointed out that during his mandate as President, if elected, Kosovo will be member of NATO, which according to him would be the best answer to “the war- urging” statements by Vucic.

“While we established the army during the time when I was Prime Minister, an issue that was against the will of our neighbor, in my mandate as President Kosovo will be part of NATO,” he wrote.

“This is the key to security and peace in the region,” he added.

During Haradinaj’s mandate as Prime Minister, in 2018, the Assembly of Kosovo approved legal changes to transform the mandate of the Kosovo Security Force into an armed force.

The transformation process of the Kosovo Army is expected to last ten years.
