Kosovo’s Acting President has set March 22 as the date for the constitution of the parliament coming out of the February 14th elections.
The first session is expected to lay the ground for the election of the Speaker of Parliament. The parliament should also elect 5 deputy speakers – 3 from the biggest groups, one from the Serbian MPs and one from another ethnic minority group.
Elections in Kosovo were dominated by Vetevendosje winning over 50% of votes, followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo with 17%, Democratic League of Kosovo with 12.73% and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) with 7.12%.
The next battle between parties is expected to be the election of the country’s President, which should be decided before May. The current Acting President Vjosa Osmani, also the Speaker of Parliament, took over the office in November last year, after President Hashim Thaci resigned to face war crime charges by a Kosovo court located in The Hague.
