Kosovo has submitted director Visar Morina’s “Exile” as its nomination for the 93rd Academy Awards.
Kosovo Center of Cinematography announced the selection on Friday. The film will run for the Best International Feature Film category.
“Exile” had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. In August, it won the Heart of Sarajevo, the best feature film award in the Sarajevo Film Festival.
It tells the story of Xhafer, a chemical engineer from Kosovo who goes through an identity crisis as a result of discrimination and harassment in his workplace in Germany.
In an interview for Cineuropa in February, Morina said he wanted “to show the feeling of being imprisoned in one’s own point of view” in his Exile.
The film is a co-production of Kosovo, Germany and Belgium, starring Sandra Huller, Michel Matievi, Flonja Kodheli, Getuart Hajrizaj, Astrit Kabashi, Valentina Dubovci, and Ameli Kabashi.
In 2016, director Visar Morina made it to the Oscar nominations through its “Father”.
