Bekim Haxhiu, MP of the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) held a meeting with the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia where he presented contacts that might help on providing around three million doses of Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus.
Haxhiu said that he could get contact with the company through ethnic Albanian doctors and business across the world.
“I have contacted the associations of Albanian doctors in Europe and the diaspora and influential people, successful businessmen and through them we have managed to provide opportunities to ensure 500,000 to 3 million doses of Pfizer vaccines,” Haxhiu said on Sunday.
“I have offered these contacts to the Ministry of Health to continue further towards a final contract”, he said.
Minister Vitia said after the meeting that the ministry will be verifying the contacts, while thanking Haxhiu and others who are putting their efforts on helping the country in the immunization process.
Kosovo is yet to receive the allocated 100,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the same facility, of which it has received only 24,000 doses in a first and only shipment. The remaining supply should arrive until the end of May.
The last country in Europe to receive vaccines, Kosovo started vaccination of health staff and the elderly three weeks ago.
