Kosovo President Hashim Thaci’s bodyguards have beaten and detained a person for shouting “thieves” while the President was holding a press statement.
Kosovo media Indeksonline caught the beating of the young man on camera, where the person is heard shouting “thieves” twice. He is seen in video recording outside the President’s building garden, with several security guards beating him while passers-by are trying to protect him.
The incident comes after today’s vote in Parliament on the new Kosovo government led by LDK’s Avdullah Hoti, which was able to get the necessary 61 votes after President Thaci personally visited MP Haxhi Shala’s family and convinced him to change his previous decision to vote against.
Kosovo’s Constitution mandates the President represent the unity of the people and stay above the interests of political parties. Many Kosovars on social media considered Thaci’s action in violation of this stipulation.
