Kosovo Signs $32 Million Grant Agreement with United States

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has signed an amendment to the country’s grant agreement with the United States which provides for another $32 million in development grant money.

“The continued support of the United States in Kosovo is a testament to the commitment of the government and the American people to strengthening the well-being of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo through effective and accountable institutions,” Osmani wrote after the signing.

In November 2020, the US granted $33 million to improve the services, accountability and effectiveness of public institutions.

According to Osmani, this latest amendment brings the total invested by the United States through the Development Objectives Grant Agreement to $73.4 million.

Over the years, the United Stats has provided similar grants to Kosovo through its international development agency, USAID.

In 2017, then President Hashim Taçi signed a $30 million agreement with USAID to address “priority development challenges: advancing the rule of law and good governance, growing a diverse economy that creates investment and jobs, and empowering young Kosovars with the academic and professional skills to be the next generation of Kosovo’s leaders.”
