Early parliamentary elections in Kosovo will take place on October 6, President Hashim Thaçi announced in a press statement today.
On Thursday, 89 out of 120 MPs voted to dissolve the parliament, following Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj resignation on 19 July. Earlier today Thaçi also approved this decision of the parliament.
A survey by the Slovenia-based institute IFIMES, placed opposition’s Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV – Movement for Self-Determination) in first place, opposition Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) in second, followed by the recent government coalition allies– President Thaçi’s PDK and PM Haradinaj’s AAK.
LVV and LDK are reported to be in talks to form a coalition before elections take place.
