Kosovo’s DokuFest Ranked among 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World

DokuFest was ranked among the 25 coolest film festivals in the world for 2020 by the MovieMaker Magazine and FilmFreeway.

DokuFest is an international documentary and short film festival that started in 2002 in Prizren, Kosovo. It’s usually held in August, including this year, August  7-15, 2020.

This year, viewers were able to stream online 90 films from 51 countries, running for awards in 8 competing categories.

MovieMaker and FilmFreeway experts compiled a list of the 25 coolest film festivals in the world. The criteria included the most forward-thinking programming, unique locations, and well-executed events.

Here is what their experts had to say about Dokufest:

“A newcomer to our coolest list last year, Dokufest makes the grade again in 2020. If you are “addicted to docs,” then you’ll love this festival, Bittencourt says, while also describing it as “low key,” with “no hierarchies, and a great programming team.” Bradley adds that it doesn’t hurt that the fest takes place “within one of the most beautiful places on earth,” Prizren, Kosovo. Dokufest is helping build a conversation around great documentary programming “with the necessary flexibility to make it feel innovative,” says Bradley. Bittencourt adds that it is helped by a “young, vibrant” vibe in which “at night, everyone meets up at the same bar.””

MovieMaker Magazine focuses on filmmaking and is published on a quarterly basis in California, US.

FilmFreeway is a professional website for filmmakers to submit their films to film festivals worldwide.
