Kosovo’s Family Doctors Advised to Diagnose COVID-19 without Testing for It

Kosovo’s National Public Health Institute (IKSHPK) has recommended family doctors diagnose coronavirus patients without conducting tests.

According to KOHA, the recommendation to the Ministry of Health advises family doctors to give a clinical diagnosis of COVID-19 if they observe symptoms in patients. The latter would then be advised to self-quarantine for 14 days, as is also the procedure for those who have tested positive for the coronavirus. These cases must be reported as assumed coronavirus positive cases.

The IKSHPK taskforce claimed that this procedure is in accordance with “practices in the USA and the world.” However, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website currently advises that, seeing as some COVID-19 symptoms are so similar to the flu, “testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis.”
