Kosovo’s Invitation to Joe Biden’s Summit for Democracy Remains Uncertain

The U.S. Department of State has declined to confirm whether Kosovo has been invited to Joe Biden’s Democracy summit to be held in December.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State told Radio Free Europe that invitations are not made public.

However, Voice of America (VOA) in Serbian and Kosovo media report that Kosovo has been invited to the Summit for Democracy organized by President Joe Biden in December.

Sources in Washington told VOA that both Serbia and Kosovo would be invited to the summit, with the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade confirming the news for Serbia.

Earlier this week, Kosovo’s main parties blamed each other for the lack of invitation after Politico published a list of 100 countries who had been invited to the summit that excluded Kosovo.

Leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector will get together to set an agenda for tackling threats to democracy around the world.

The original list published by Politico did not include the Western Balkan countries of Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
