Residents of Kruja gathered in front of the Municipality on Saturday to protest the poisoning of hundreds of citizens, which is believed to have happened through the water supply system.
Since October 23, more than 600 residents have reported to the emergency room with symptoms of poisoning.
Protestors have called for the resignation of the mayor of Kruja, Artur Bushi, and of the head of the city’s water supply system.
Preliminary water analysis made public earlier this week found heightened levels of ammonia in the drinking water. However, it is not yet known how high ammonia levels made their way into the drinking water of the population.
The water supply was shut off briefly, but has now been reinstated. Nevertheless, authorities have warned residents not to use it for drinking and cooking.
