Being the first of the major parties to respond officially to the election results, LSI leader Petrit Vasili declared today that the LSI accepts the election results and will be the new opposition of the country:
I thank that more than 230,000 Albanian voters who not only voted for the LSI, but gave it a historical mission, namely to furnish Albania finally with a true opposition in this country.
Vasili further accused the State Police for not fighting against the criminal groups that exerted terror during the electoral campaign and not securing a quiet voting and counting process:
The strategy of terror, releasing millions of dirty money, of making the State Police and the collaborators in this terror strategy one. The criminal strategy implemented during the June 25 elections has happened to the detriment of the LSI as their tactical objective and to the detriment of the country by opening the gates to criminals and those who traffic drugs.
Finally, Vasili attacked the Democratic Party, calling it “the captured opposition”:
Albania has had failed and corrupted governments, but an opposition that does not exist, or even worse, a captured opposition, that she hasn’t seen before.
