Leader of opposition party Socialist Movement of Integration (LSI) Monika Kryemadhi has called for the creation of an independent monitoring organ intended to oversee the spending of the funds received in international aid, following the donors’ conference held Monday in Brussels.
“It’s very important to have an independent monitoring institution of experts that will oversee this entire project,” said Kryemadhi, according to whom, such an institution is necessary due to the Rama government’s inability to manage the state budget.
The aid granted by the international community amounted to nearly €1.15 billion in funds intended to help reconstruction efforts following the November 26 earthquake. The majority of the funds, €885 million, are loans with the rest consisting €265 in grants.
