According to the Macedonian news website Albeu, Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has spoken about early elections after the failure of the negotiations with Ali Ahmeti’s BDI. He stated that new elections are the only way in which Macedonia can get out of its current political crisis.
Meanwhile, BDI spokesperson Bujar Osmani stated yesterday evening that there is still no party-wide decision about a possible coalition. He also added that the BDI had presented several solutions to Gruevski, such as a broad coalition, a minority cabinet, or early elections.
Negotiations for a new government coalition after the elections in December 2016 have been difficult, with Gruevski’s VMRO-DPMNE securing a minimal victory of Zoran Zaev’s Social Democrats. Meanwhile, the Albanian minority parties, including the BDI, have forged an alliance based on the recognition of Albanian as state language.
